The Barre City Police Department is committed to a community and problem-oriented policing philosophy with a procedural justice approach. We are dedicated to implementing the "Six Pillars of 21st Century Policing" guidelines as we strive to build community, foster inclusivity, and empower others to increase the quality of life and public safety. Click on the PDF book links below to learn more about these principles and the actions we are working toward.

In August 2021 Governor Scott issued Executive Order 03-20 outlining several measures relative to use of force, body worn cameras, improper conduct investigations, hiring practices, universal reporting, data, training, and community oversight. A subsequent law took effect October 1, 2021 whereas a statewide use of force policy was required to be adopted by all Vermont agencies. BCPD has adopted this policy. We have updated our Conduct and Responsibility policies to include a robust policy for Rules of Conduct, Professional Ethics, Internal Affairs/Complaints and Discipline, and a progressive Disciplinary Matrix. BCPD's policy manual can be found HERE.
