Volunteer Opportunities in Barre City

The City of Barre is seeking applications for volunteers to serve on City committees, task forces, boards, and commissions.  Participation in these public bodies is a great way ­­­to get involved in your community, and lend your expertise or interest to make the City an even better place to live.  If you are interested in serving your community, please see the application process information below.

Application Process

Interested applicants must complete an application form which is available on the City’s website under Volunteer Opportunities, and attached to the end of this notice.

• Due date: Applications are accepted on a rolling basis through the year.  Terms are typically for 2-years and expire on June 30.  Around the end of every term, a deadline for new appointments and reappointments is established by the City Manager's office.. 
• How to submit your application: Submit your completed application via email or drop it off in the City Manager’s Office at City Hall (6 N. Main Street, Suite 2)

Note: You do not need to physically “sign” the application form, typing your name on the fillable form is acceptable.

Council Interviews

Candidates for open seats will be invited to an informal interview with the City Council accordance with City Council policy prior to appointment.  Council meetings generally occur every other Tuesday at 6:00PM.  A schedule of upcoming Council meetings can be located on the City’s website.  Candidates will be invited by City staff to a specific meeting for the brief interview.  Please note that Council interviews will not be required under the following circumstances:

• The candidate is an incumbent seeking reappointment, and
• The Chair (or the Vice-Chair in the case of the Chair’s pending reappointment), provides a letter in support of reappointment.

Applicants are encouraged to attend a meeting or speak to the chair of public bodies they are interested in joining.
