Water Collections

This department performs a variety of functions that include meter readings, billings, collections, sale prorations, and scheduling of service department technicians for all water and sewer customers of the City of Barre water and sewer system. All inquiries during normal business hours (Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) should be directed to this office by calling 476-0251. To report a water or sewer related emergency after hours or on holidays, please call the City of Barre Police Department dispatch center at 476-6613. All after hours service calls that are determined to be the homeowners responsibility, will be charged. All service calls outside the City of Barre will be charged, regardless of hours.

DIRECT DEBIT PAYMENT PROCESSING

The City of Barre Water & Sewer Department is pleased to offer direct debit payment processing. This feature allows us to withdraw payment from your designated checking or savings account on the due date of the quarterly bill, eliminating the need for you to write a check or pay in person. If you would like to sign up for this service, or have any questions, please call our office at 476-0251.

Water and/or sewer bills are billed quarterly on March 1st, June 1st, September 1st, and December 1st. Water bills are due no later than the last day of the billing month or as otherwise stated on the bill. In the event that the last day of the month falls on a weekend or holiday, the next business day becomes the last day. All payments received after the due date will be turned over to our collections department and will be subject to additional penalties and interest charges. A 3% penalty will be charged on delinquent water and sewer bills for the first 30 days of delinquency. An additional 5% penalty will be assessed beginning on the 31st day of delinquency. Interest charges will accrue at 1% per month on any part there of. We do accept postmarks as timely payments. Timely payments are considered as being received in the office of the City of Barre Water & Sewer Department office before close of business on or before the due date, or if received by mail, must bear a clearly legible U.S. Post Office postmark (not a postage meter mark) containing a date on or before the due date.

Please be advised that customers of the City of Barre water system have received letters from a Company named Homeserve USA Corporation offering water service line insurance. This mailing is NOT affiliated or endorsed by the City of Barre Water Department. We do not share our customer data base with private or for-profit entities. Nothing has changed in water service line conditions, City maintenance practices, or property owner maintenance responsibilities that prompts or warrants this solicitation.
